I suffer from LHDD. Do you?

In September 2014, a few days before I could start my first ever corporate job as an intern, I cut my hair. I decided that it was time for a change and made the ultimate decision of chopping my hair short and had it chopped a little above my shoulder (which is pretty short for me, considering my previous length of hair!). For hair inspiration, I took a photo of Jenn Im – a fabulous YouTuber who has an exceptional fashion sense and I told my hairdressers to cut my hair exactly like how it is in the picture and so she did exactly that.

For the first two months, I genuinely loved my short hair. I was pleased with how my new hair looked on me, I had fun styling my hair and also, I felt as though the shorter hair made me look a bit more ‘cooler’! Having had long hair ever since I was 14 years old, I thought I would rather enjoy having shorter hair.

However, my short hair is now 4 months old and, I can tell you that I am most definitely suffering from LHDD – Long Hair Deficiency Disorder (I just made this up!). It was quite hard to admit that I did have LHDD to myself because my mum warned me about this. I know it is only hair and it will grow back but growing back the hair, let’s face it, is a tough job!

Do you suffer from LHDD?

OR

Do you just want to speed up the process of your hair growing back to a decent length?

Well, I want to share with you my top 2 tips that has and is helping my hair grow longer, stronger and thicker 🙂 I’m sure you would have heard these tips many times, but I still hope that talking from my own experience could benefit you in some way.

1) Hair loves oil

You read it right, hair loves oil the same way Jack loved Rose in the movie, Titanic. At the moment, my hair is loving Extra Virgin Olive Oil being gently heated up for a few minutes and being massaged it into the scalp of my hair. I do this twice a week without fail and let the oil soak in for at least 1 hour or a couple of hours (in the weekend of course, when I have nothing better to do!). You are not limited in only using Olive Oil, you could experiment with other oils too! Here are my top reasons why I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil:

– My hair is of the big, bushy and frizzy kind and using olive oil helps keep my mane tamed and shiny.

– Olive oil is a great moisturiser for our scalp. My hair and scalp does experience vey dry conditions and this definitely helps in locking the moisture in.

– Olive oil is known to make hair grow thicker. My hair is definitely not the thickest, and this is helping each of my hair strand to be thicker and stronger.

PS. I have also used Almond oil, Coconut Oil and Castor Oil (make sure they are all cold-pressed) too. They are all great and have different benefits! I recommend researching with our good friend Google to choose the right oil for your hair type.

2) Hair hates heat

I am sure you must have heard this a million times. Hair hates curlers, straighteners, hair rollers, hair dryer and anything and everything that emits heat on to the hair. I love a good blow-dry, those perfect curls and I like it straight too and so, I struggle with this one a lot. However, I have made a pact in reducing the heat tools as much as possible. This is how I do it:

– Use a great, reliable heat protection spray. I use TRESemme Heat Defence Styling Spray.

– Use heat tools strictly twice a week.

– Use the lowest possible heat setting

I would love to hear your thoughts and tips on how you take care of your hair. Thanks for reading!

This is literally the same as me. I started an internship in September, and I cut my hair short trying to be sophisticated and professional. It was great at first, but I have naturally curly hair (and am lazy and can’t be bothered to straighten it) and now am left with this in-between length and lusting after my long hippy hair. Thanks for the tips I will definitely purchase some hair oil!

Its a constant struggle for me… Do i chop it off and be short and chic or do i keep the long bombshell waves. So far the bravest I have gotten is cutting bangs, which are an up and down on a daily basis. Lol
    Great post!

I try to wash my hair as little as possible so it can retain its natural oils. I usually have one or two days with my hair down and styled, then a pony, then a scraped up pony and then french plaits when its waaaayyyy dirttyyy. I end up washing my hair once or twice a week max and it feels so much healthier x

I know the struggle! I finally reached my hair goal (after 4 years!) and what’s helped is washing my hair only 2-3 times a week instead of what I use to do which was everyday. Also I went out and bought a wooden brush. They do wonders😍
Good luck on your hair journey!

I totally know how you feel! I cut off my hair twice for Locks of Love, so I’m used to going from very long to very short hair…and missing my hair a few months later! I always want what I don’t have, it seems 🙂 I’ve almost grown back my 11” or so in the past two years after a lot of patience…and I’m thinking about cutting it off again. I guess change is fun 🙂

THIS IS SO TRUE!! I actually cut my hair February last year, also inspired by Jenn Im. I’m also having trouble growing my hair out. Great, helpful post! 🙂

Great tips! I usually wash my hair in warm water but once in done I rinse it on freezing cold water (helps keep my hair more tamed) and if I have to blow dry, I use the coolest setting. Doing both my hair doesn’t get frizzy /poofy like normal from the heat, I usuallydon’t need to use a straightener after and my hair has been a lot healthier!

Great read! I did the same thing, I had hair down to waist and fell in love with Rihanna’s hair in ‘Umbrella’ so decided to get the same cut! I found I really loved the short hair but my hair grows really quickly so I couldn’t keep maintaining the bob and decided to grow it out. It was during the growing out stage I had LHDD (totally a real thing)! I’ve found I either love my hair really short or really long, but hate it in between. Hope your hair grows to your desired length as quickly as possible! Thank you for stopping by my blog 🙂

not sure why I am just now seeing this post of yours but whatever the case I am and my issue is..I think I am addicted to cutting my hair (drives husband crazy). I will cut it, work so hard to grow it back, then cut it again…I’m about to cut it here within the next month and I just took off two inches last week… I use heat once every two weeks or once a month since last year and am an avid coconut nut lol but I had no idea those two things were aiding in my hair recovery, but it makes since cause in school my hair never grew and I was not very nice to my hair. anyways, I know I am long winded sorry loved this post, love you, love your blog , stay well

my hair is now to my shoulders. I use olive oil on my daughter’s hair. she is biracial and for some reason coconut oil does not last long in her hair, olive oil seams to keep her curls soft for days. I’m a big fan of anything that follows “less is more” and that seems to be the trick with her hair. no problem your posts are always a good read, take care.:]
